Fifteen Books

Over at her journal rhubarb has posted a meme listing fifteen important books. People seem to be taking this to mean books that were important to them, and that's my interpretation. Tomorrow half the books that come to mind would no doubt be different, but these are all books that shaped the way I think and what I read and influenced my life in various ways.

  • The Wind in the Willows -- Kenneth Grahame
  • The various animal books by Thornton W. Burgess
  • Tom Swift Jr series -- Victor Appleton
  • Adventures in Time and Space -- editors Healy and McComas
  • The Jungle - Upton Sinclair
  • The History of Philosophy - Will Durant
  • Sherlock Holmes stories -- Arthur Conan Doyle
  • Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien
  • The Stars My Destination - Alfred Bester
  • One Man's Meat (and other essay collections) E.B. White
  • Jealousy - Alain Robbe-Grillet
  • Travis McGee series John D McDonald
  • Maigret series by Georges Simenon
  • All Our Yesterdays (history of sf fandom) Harry Warner
  • Armchair Orienteering -- Winnie Stott

And no I am too reticent to tag people, but feel free to make a list if you so desire.

Wow. I already remembered a very important book I forgot -- Dick and Jane!!
