screen doors, fresh air, and mini-picnics

The weather has been great! 60s at night, 70s to 90s during the day. The wind has a sweet scent from the flowers which are blooming. Occasional rain (thunderstorms! yeah!) keeps the air clean. It's beautiful.

And I now have a screen door! I'm ecstatic. I got an el cheapo $20 wood door at Lowe's, and Sean actually cut it to make it fit my irregular-size doorway. It works, it works! Eric (my neighbor and landlord) not only offered us the use of his tools (which were exactly what was needed) but he's also taking the price of the door off of my rent. I got a screen door, *and* my landlord is paying for it. Eric rocks! Sean rocks! The screen door rocks!

Gods but it takes so little to make me happy.

Despite this great joy in my life, I was actually a little disappointed today, since I'm going out of town for a night (to Charleston after work on Wednesday) on a night Sean has a show. It couldn't really be helped, but I like to be there whenever Sean plays, and it's double-disappointing since it also means he can't go with me to Charleston. On top of that, I expected to be able to spend today with him (not to mention vote in the primary and put finishing touches on the screen door), but my co-worker Eric (different Eric from above) was sick, and at the last minute I had to work today instead. And tonight Sean has band practice and gaming, and tomorrow I work all day and then have to leave town, so I don't get to see much of him...

I know, I know. I live with the guy, it's not as if I don't see plenty of him. But it was still a lightly disappointing series of events.

Well, I'm already lucky since I really like my job, and had a fun day anyway (Michelle and Michael stopped by, and Jeremy! stopped by, and Russ and George and Matt and Gonzo stopped by...) but I'm extra extra lucky, as you're about to see. Today Sean came and picked me up at work, with about half an hour until he had to be at practice--not enough time to even run home and back, so I expected to be dropping him off and going on home. Instead he had brought peanut butter and jelly sandwiches so we could go down to the Riverfront Park and have a little picnic before he was gone for the evening. We got to sit and admire graffiti and feed ducks, and eat pb&j and drink coke, and have a very pleasant snatched twenty minutes in the spring warmth.

I love this boy.

And here I am with the cats, enjoying the breeze coming through my brand-new screen door. It feels good.
