You'll recall my jonesing for a Treo of course, which really wasn't all that long ago. Well I still sort of jones for one, and from what I've been able to find they're rather incredible little machines.

But it's nearly impossible for me to justify the cost to myself--and I've decided that what I really want is just transportable internet. I mean, I'd love to have the digital camera feature as well, though from what I read they take sort of crappy relatively low-res photos... But I've just been itching for portable internet. I already have a cell-phone I like, so that feature of the Treo was just extra frosting anyway.

Because of the online teaching I've been doing I'm online alot--except unlike previous jobs where I got to be online and have fun putzing around, now I'm online with a single-minded purpose, ie to get all these posts from students responded to. And there are little times when I'm sitting at one of the other jobs doing nothing when it would just be nice to get three or four of those posts gone so I could focus on other things later...

So in the morning I'm going to go down to Office Depot and look at their PDAs, and ask about internet plans for the little buggers. And if I love it, then eventually I can still get a Treo--hell, maybe the next version they put out...

Oh, and something else amusing: I'm trying to get high speed internet at home. Unfortunately I am outside of Verizon's area (by about a mile, I suspect). Anyway, I called Adelphia, because for my area they're the only other game in town--and since I've never had cable with them, they have to do a site verification (to figure out where exactly I was located, she said: And no, it didn't matter that people in a 360 degree radius around me had Adelphia cable...) before they can hook me up with cable internet. They're going to call me back...in 7-10 business days.

WTF, you know?
