sales, vacations, and, of course, fire(s)

I sold a poem to Strange Horizons, yay upon yay upon yay. Of course I shall provide a link when it is published. I haven't been as good about submitting things over the last year and a half or so as I had been prior, but with upcoming appearances in SH, Chizine, H.P. Lovecraft's Magazine of Horror and Flytrap, I think it's gonna be a good year...

Prepare for rambling...

I find myself doing a lot of daydreaming lately instead of working, which of course means I'm looking forward to vacation. In 7 days we'll probably go do the parking lot party for Pennsic land grab, we'll be up there again on Thursday for the first pirate night, and then the next Sunday to Sunday we'll be camping unreachable by almost anybody in the real world...

Ah the Lostboys. Music, the Bog, and rope swings... I would love to be in a hammock under the trees drinking Pan right now...

We can fly! We can fly!

I ordered my corset just t'other day, and will of course provide pictures when it arrives. I wind up being one of the mistress of ceremonies each year for the pirate nights, so I wanted to get meself something smashing to wear this year. (The question of period becomes less an issue on pirate nights and wode nights than on any of the others--if you can make even a loose argument for it and it looks good, well... It almost becomes roleplay--okay, if I really were a female pirate and accepted as such by my peers, and we really had access to all these styles of clothing and all these types of materials, what would I want to wear?)

Our boots came just this week (mine fell apart last year, Sean's got left behind) so I have happy feet. (And I like his boots too, can't wait to see them with his kilt...) My boots are reasonable easy to slip on and off, and come to above the knee if I don't turn down the cuff. I have a pair of chinese slippers I'll be wearing most of the time...but again, when the boots are necessary I'll have them.

I love the firestaff. I've only had it on fire twice though--I need to get some serious fire practice in to see what I can and can't do. I just got two three foot staffs to play with as well, but so far I really can't spin them without hitting myself (not hard, often just a brush really, but with fuel and fire involved that'll probably suck...) More practice will help, I know, but I'm impatient :p Usually it's just when I get the little one going (and let down my guard) that I wind up whapping myself. whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whap! grrr... The big one is coming along well, now it's mostly the challenge of putting together some kind of routine. I have all these individual moves I can do, I just need to put them all together and add some footwork...gives me a whole new respect for some of the kata I've learned over the years.

Hmmmm... Maybe I should get back to work.
