Why haven't I seen more about this? (Just that old news? Or am I blind?)

Yeah yeah, I know I'm behind on current events--also I've been in a state of hermit-ish hibernation for many many moons, while the outside air is still too cold for me to happily stand. Pretty sure this little site I'm about to link requires flash too, just to warn you. But if you don't already know about this, it's definitely worth viewing (you don't need sound, it's a visual text and images thing):

Danish Cartoons Nearly Start WWIII

If you don't want to hit the flash site above, there's a blogspot journal with much of the same information (actually more), but not as clearly organized:

Face of Muhammed

Yeah, I fall on the side of free-speech, and am disheartened by the response from the Vatican that suggests religions as a whole should be beyond the reach of free speech. I am also chilled by the clearly violent sentiments of the protesters. Part of the point of free-speech is not only the ability to voice your views, but to have people who share completely opposite views be capable of sharing theirs...and each of you has the same abilities to ignore or be offended (or listen, accept, learn, or attempt to change...). So I'm not attempting to say that Muslims are wrong to be offended or upset--but yes, the threats, fires, bombs, and fights are certainly over-the-top. (er, and you do recognize the art of understatement here, right?)

On the other hand, some people clearly think the newspaper that did the original publishing is not so innocent, and deliberately provoked the Muslim community:

Cartoons are a purposeful provocation.

I'm skeptical of this article, but it does make me question the motives of the newspaper involved. I'd like more information on that.

And, on the side of me being a horrible person, of the 12 images, this one is my favorite too.

*One of the signs one of the protesters is holding reads "Europe you will pay. Your 9/11 is on its way."
