Brain "Power"

New Post
It's just about the end of 2004, around 10:00PM, Tuesday December 28th to be exact. While I type, I'm listening to a CD over headphones called Quietude. It's a special program designed by the Centerpointe Research people. These folks have come up with an audio program, or I should say programs, that are designed to expedite personal growth.

Their soundtracks induce a deep meditative state, even for the non-meditator. More interestingly (though this first bit is probably worth the price of admission) is that, buried beneath the audible "music," there lies a vibration too low to hear. With the aid of stereo headphones, the listener is sent different audio signals to each ear and, therefore, to each hemisphere of the brain. By making the brain work to make "sense" out of the incoming signals, the program challenges it to accommodate the incoming material by creating new neural pathways. When the brain creates these new linkages, I am told something quite remarkable happens...

From The Holosync Solution, A Brief Overview:

"To handle the Holosync stimulus and the deep meditative states it creates, the brain is pushed to create new neural pathways between the left and right brain hemispheres, creating greater balance and greater communication within the brain. In this process, Holosync pushes your emotional threshold higher and higher, causing so-called dysfunctional feelings and behaviors, including anger, fear, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, overeating (and many others) to fall away."

"We each have a threshold for what we can handle coming at us from the world. When that threshold is exceeded, we attempt to cope through a variety of coping mechanisms, including those listed above, many of which are dysfunctional and most of which cause suffering and negative outcomes in our life. Our view is that all dysfunctional feelings and behaviors are attempts to cope with being pushed over this threshold."

The following made me sit up and take notice...

"When a person experiences trauma during childhood, this threshold ends up lower than if the trauma had not occurred, and the person is more often bothered by people, situations and even memories, thoughts, and feelings that might not bother other "normal" people... The solution, then, is to raise this threshold higher, and this is what Holosync does. As this happens, dysfunctional feelings and behaviors gradually fall away because the threshold at which they are triggered becomes so high almost nothing can push you past it."

If this were true, Holosync would be a remarkable self-help tool.
I have been using the program for a little over two weeks now. I'm told this first stage could take anywhere from six to eight months. Something is definitely happening. I'm ushered to a deep meditative state almost immediately, which I find quite wonderful. I am, however, most interested in the claim that the program raises the threshold at which a person hits overwhelm. I am keenly aware of this threshold within myself, and I will know when and if things improve in this area. You can be sure I will report my experiences to you here and let you know how it's all going.
