There is nothing to read here. The content is over there, to your right.

I may, however, at some point, put something here. Some day. Eventually. No pressure.

For Norrey

NFD. 1958-2003
requiescat in pace

XIV

Prais'd be the fathomless universe,
For life and joy, and for objects and knowledge curious,
And for love, sweet love-but praise! praise! praise!
For the sure-enwinding arms of cool-enfolding death.

...

Dark mother always gliding near with soft feet,
Have none chanted for thee a chant of fullest welcome?
Then I chant it for thee, I glorify thee above all,
I bring thee a song that when thou must indeed come, come
unfalteringly.

...

The night in silence under many a star,
The ocean shore and the husky whispering wave whose voice I know,
And the soul turning to thee O vast and well-veil'd death,
And the body gratefully nestling close to thee.

from "When Lilacs last in the Dooryard Bloom'd", Walt Whitman

Strong and proud women. She's the third I've lost. One slipped away through the clutches of alzheimer's, one left so suddenly the family is still in a bit of shock, and this one, her daughter, fought longer and harder all her life against diseases that would have claimed most decades ago.

She was so stubborn. She raised 2 boys through to manhood on the salary of a night janitor. I don't think she even knew that it could have been different, easier. And when her mother died, she was the one that took care of everyone else. No nonsense.

And her laugh. Such a slight woman but a booming laugh that always caught us off-guard. Her sarcastic sense of humour (a family trait) was always a force, though sometimes her barbs were based more on truth than play.

Backbone. Will. Fearless. Stubborn. Opinionated. Smart. Worker. Mother.

Cousin. Friend.

I light my candle from their torches.
