There is nothing to read here. The content is over there, to your right.

I may, however, at some point, put something here. Some day. Eventually. No pressure.

power to the little people

Like most Canadians, I make claim to some Irish heritage (great-grandfather). Far enough removed that I don't feel the urge to go hunting for shamrocks yet close enough ties to want my beer tinted green today.

Asked my kids who Saint Patrick was.."patron saint of Ireland" was the eldest's response.. "guy who got rid of all the snakes" was the girl's.

"Right" says I. "But then because the people of Hamelin refused to pay him, he came back and led all their children away, never to be seen again. The townspeople had a big ol' party because they'd never have to deal with the little brats again and the 17th of March is the day we celebrate that."

Eyeroll from the manling. Skeptical eyebrow from the girling.

"Seriously."

"Right mom.. and what happened to the kids?"

"Well, Patrick was a little surprised and didn't know what to do with all those screaming kids, so he called his good buddy Nicholas.."

"Oh jesus.." Manling shakes head and leaves room at this point.

"AND of course, as you know, Nicholas took the children with him to the North Pole to work in toy-shops for minimum wage with no chance to unionize, like the Teamsters who take care of the reindeer. Once the townspeople heard this, they made Nicholas a saint, too."

"Saint Nicho.. Santa Claus???" Girling may be naive, but she's quick.

"That's right!!! Well done!"

"Uh huh. How much beer you had this morning, mom?" Ok, maybe not so naive.

"Shut up and go to school, you're going to be late."

*sigh* They're just not as fun as they used to be.
