Cafe Rambleflower

So, Tim and I had a short date night tonight. I'd been fighting a migraine all day (and losing), so we just checked the PO box, had a *very* satisfying meal at a Mexican restaurant, went to the comic book store, bought a Dirt Devil (to help deal with cat hair and fleas) and came right back home. Yeah, it seemed like a lot more than a short trip, too. We came back and I basically passed out for two hours in bed. Felt much, much better when I woke up.

Anyway, so we watched Chicago on DVD. I've seen this on Broadway, back in 1998 when I visited David's family for Thanksgiving in New York. This musical is always tinged with my father's death for me, since the day after I saw it I was woken up by David's mom handing me the phone, with my mom and bad news on the line.

Ok, this is about the movie, not those other things.

Ok, so, while I very much enjoyed both the stage version and the movie, I have to say that Catherine Zeta-Jones was not meant to play the role of Velma. Renee Zellwiger and Richard Gere both surprised and delighted me with their talent for singing, posing, dancing (though I'm pretty sure Gere had a double for that tap dance, at least the close-ups of his feet). Zeta-Jones, not so much. She moved awkwardly, not horribly so for an actress, but definitely for the finesse that this role, and this musical especially, required.

Tim hates musicals. Even ones with sexy women in lingerie doing saucy dance moves and vamping it up.

That, I just don't get.

That is all for now. Really.
