PSA: Phone Calls on Weekends
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

Read/Post Comments (5)

Someone called at 9:16am this morning. Tim went back to sleep. Me, I am a light sleeper and have trouble falling asleep. I had to get up.

Just FYI: if you have our phone number and would like to call, I'd love to hear from you. But, please please please please refrain from calling before noon (CA time) on Saturdays and Sundays (or major holidays for that matter). I know this sounds slovenly to some of you, but weekends are my time to unwind, and sometimes I stay up late on Fridays or Saturdays writing or playing games or going to a party (that one's more rare, true) because I know I can sleep in. When the phone wakes me up, I am no longer able to catch up on sleep, and it kinda ruins my day. And I never get enough sleep during the week anyway, so it can make me fucking miserable sometimes.

No, I don't always sleep until noon. If you want to see if I'm up before noon, send me an email -- I always check first thing when I get up.

There are exceptions, of course. Emergencies, deaths, births, etc. Sherman called early on 9/11/2001 to tell us to turn on the TV and that was fine. Also, if you want to give me money and/or are an editor/ publisher/ agent and want to discuss a deal with me or Tim, you can call in the middle of the night if you want to. Those are fine exceptions. If we have plans that day and you need to let me know about a change ASAP, that's ok. If you know already I'm up, that's ok.

God, this is a bitchy entry, huh? Sorry, I'm just a bit tired and cranky right now.

Ok, so I think that's clear. Here's a handy chart if you live in a different time zone and want to know when it's safe to call on the weekends:

Pacific Time -- noon
Mountain Time -- 1pm
Central Time -- 2pm
Eastern Time -- 3pm

International calls are so rare I guess they're probably an exception.

I'll post something more interesting later on.
