Differences

There are lots and lots of differences between Fallbrook/Laguna Beach and Monteagle. The only commonality I can readily discern is that they are all in the South – well, kinda-sorta if you know what I mean.

But weighing all differences, I have to admit I lovelovelove living in Monteagle, on the mountain, in the Real South. I’ve even been given a new name – everyone calls me Darlin’.

One of the first things I did when I moved here was to register to vote. God only knows why I bothered, given my abysmal voting statistics, which I mentioned two posts ago. After I registered and was driving home, it suddenly occurred to me that I couldn’t recall declaring my party preference, and I’m not talking about vodka martinis versus gin martinis. I finally shrugged it off and attributed the lapse as my continuing decline into old age and loss of short and long term memories. Anyway, when I voted yesterday, I was given a small sheet of paper where I had to check the elections I wanted to vote in: General, primary, municipal, etc. I was also given an opportunity to declare my party. Quite frankly, I think that’s way cool. I am no longer pigeon-holed into a party. I am now truly an independent and can be an independent thinker and vote for the PERSON and not the party every time I vote.

Despite my newfound elation regarding voting practices up here in the mountains, my record stands unblemished. My candidate didn’t win. At least ya’ll now know I didn’t vote for Huckabee. :))))
