Two things of note:

1) Last night I got stood up for a date. This girl works in my apartment complex, and we've been flirty ever since I moved into my current apartment, so I asked her out about a month ago. Just for coffee, no big deal. But she told me her December was extremely busy, so we probably wouldn't be able to do it until after Christmas. I said fine, I could wait, plus my month was pretty busy too. So last Tuesday I walk into the apt office to pick up a book I had ordered (it was two, actually: The Panic Hand and After Silence by Jonathan Carroll) and she asked if my schedule had lightened up a bit. I said yes and we made plans to go out last Saturday night. But when I called Saturday morning to iron out the details (where we were going, what time, etc.), she said she was going to New York for the weekend. She and her friends had gotten cheap airfare, but this was the only weekend they could go. So she asked if it would be all right if we went out Monday night (last night). I said sure. I called her yesterday at lunch and she was still in bed, so I said I'd call after work. So I did. And got her voicemail. I called again at 6:30, and still didn't hear from her, nor for the rest of the night. It turned out okay because I needed to get prepared for today, and compile a portfolio on CD. But still, it makes me think. This is the third time this has happened in six months. I ask a girl out, she says yes, then we never go out. I seem to have no problem getting girls to say yes, but then something seems to scare them off. I just don't get it. It's getting really annoying. And yes, I realize I'm bitching now, so I'll stop.

2) I went to a job interview today at UNC's School of Public Health. They're looking for a graphic designer / flash programmer, and my resume came up. So I took the day off work, feigning bad health, shaved off the beard I was growing (except for the chin, because I figured graphic designers wouldn't mind), busted out my best suit, and drove to Chapel Hill. The interview was exhausting and draining: first I talked to the woman who called me (who looks to be in charge of the department), then talked to five designers with whom I would be working. They asked lots of questions, some I wasn't expecting (like what kind of fiction do you write? and how long did you play the tuba?), but most were about knowledge of Flash and what I would bring to the job. Trying to hype myself for an hour was grueling, and my feet are still killing me (I really need to buy new dress shoes). But I thought the interview went pretty well. I should find out by the end of the week.

I watched TRON tonight with my best friend, Jason (no, not me). It's the two-disc 20th Anniversary Edition that was just released on DVD, with all sorts of behind-the-scenes info and conceptual sketches. At $24.99, it was a good buy, especially since it's one of my all-time favorites. It was the first movie to ever use CGI (Computer-Generated Imaging), and most likely the first to ever mention computer hacking. It's a classic and I'm glad it's been remastered in widescreen so that I can watch it like it was always intended.
