A Big Fat Greek Theme Night

Last week went pretty well. I took Janet out to the Spartacus Grille (a Greek restaurant here in Cary) for her birthday Friday night and had some excellent pastitsio, then to the new Madstone Theaters (a new theater in town that shows lower-run movies you'd normally see in an arthouse theater, but with six screens, total remodeling, and cappuchino at the concessions stand) to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It was a Greek-themed evening, and was a lot of fun.

Writing buddy news:

  • Andy Duncan just won the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award for his short story, "The Chief Designer," which was published in Asimov's last year. He also has a slew of new stories coming out.
  • Mike Jasper has stories coming out in Strange Horizons and Gothic.Net.
  • Scott Nicholson got a great review for his new novel The Red Church in this month's Locus.
  • And fellow 2002 Clarionite Edd Vick just got his first short story accepted at Asimov's!

I got a bunch of story-related detritus cleaned up last night, like checking my log book and discovering that Black Gate has had my story "Wicked Game" for seven months and Darrell Schweitzer has had "The Old Switcheroo" for nearly five months, and I haven't heard back from either of them. I'll have to go through my list tonight and see who I can send stories to. I may even start revising my Clarion stories. I also made a master folder with submission guidelines for all the magazines and anthologies I've sent things to. So now I only have to look in one place to get that information. Tidying up; it's no substitute for writing, but it helps.
