Birthday Week continues into this weekend: at 4:00 I leave work for Trinoc-con, the premiere Research Triangle speculative fiction conference, which takes place at the Durham Marriot this year. If you're in the area, come on down; some of the coolest authors will be there, including John Kessel, Michael Bishop, Orson Scott Card, Kelly Link, and Andy Duncan. It's mostly a literary convention, but there is an art show and a costume contest as well, not to mention an area for gamers. It's a really well-put-together convention, and this year they've scored some great Guests of Honor: Lois McMaster Bujold (literary), James Wappel (art), Dave Arenson (gaming), and special guest North Carolina Poet Laureate Fred Chappell. It's $35 at the door for the whole weekend, or you can pay on a daily basis. This will be my only convention this year, so I aim to have a great time.
