Unremarkable Weekend

This weekend was relatively unremarkable. My mother came over Saturday afternoon so I could help her with a flyer to promote a viewing of her 30 minute PBS special on North Carolina Civil War sites, to be shown on the campus of St. Augustine's College, where she teaches journalism. We were able to take some of the images used on the VHS case, and I used Pagemaker to bring it all together. It turned out pretty nicely.

On Sunday, I drove over to Chapel Hill to visit Jamie, and we went to a bunch of used book stores. I found a perfect hardcover copy of The Woman Who Walks Into Walls by Roddy Doyle for only $11.50 in The Bookshop, a place so vast that the shelves reach six feet above your head and seem to go back and back forever. Then I had my writing group that night at the Cup O' Joe's in Raleigh, and it didn't quite go as planned. Drew and I showed up at the coffeehouse on Hillsborough Street, and waited an hour for the other folks to arrive, going over each other's submissions while we waited. Then I went home, reeking of cigarette smoke (they've only recently allowed smoking in there again), and found out that we were supposed to meet at the Cup O' Joe's on Avent Ferry Road, where Mike, Scott, and Alex had met. Big oops. Hopefully we can get together before a month has gone by, since I'd like as much feedback as possible on "One Big Crunch."

Nothing big going on this week. I want to try to revise the no-longer-Valhalla story, and get back on the novel soon. Hopefully this week.
