Tomorrow is moving day at work. All the walls have been put up and painted, bookshelves propped against the hallways to hold acres of manuals and spec books, and wiring finished in the new offices. Luckily, I'll only be moving fifteen feet to the left, so it won't be too bad, just a minor pain in the ass.

But today, after work, I went to the leasing office of my apt complex and renewed the lease for my apartment. I originally thought I wasn't going to be able to afford to live here during grad school, but figured out that if I work twenty hours a week, I won't have to get nearly as much financial aid, and I'll be able to stay here. Woo! I'm so happy about this decision for a number of reasons:

  • I hate moving
  • This apartment feels more like a home to me than any place I've lived in since my parents' house in high school
  • I hate moving
  • I'm close to campus and to my job
  • I hate moving
  • This is where I want Janet and I to start our life together
  • I hate moving

So I'm staying. Yay!

A few cool new/revamped writer websites:

  1. The Fortress of Solitude by Jonathan Lethem
  2. Diary by Chuck Palahniuk
  3. M John Harrison
  4. Stephen King

I finished reading Trampoline tonight, and would recommend it to everyone. Out of all the stories, I probably liked "The Woman Who Thought She Was a Planet" by Vandana Singh the most, though all the stories were excellent. (Singh's story in Polyphony 1, "The Room on the Roof", her first published story, was also my favorite in that anthology. Trust me, you're going to be seeing a lot more of her fiction in the future; catch the wave early.) Go buy a copy of Trampoline when it comes out in August.
