The NCSU English Dept. just updated the information on this semester's reading series. There will be a graduate student reading on September 9 at the Helios Coffee Company in downtown Raleigh, and I'll be participating. I'm not yet sure what I'll be reading from, but we only have five minute slots, so I'll have to be selective; it'll be very likely something new. The reading is open to the public, so if you're in the area, please come on down and drink some yummy coffee or eat some yummy cheesecake while listening to literary goodness.

Also on the reading series, Jonathan Lethem will be coming back to town, as part of the book tour for his new collection Men and Cartoons. The publication date is November, but after talking to John Kessel the other day, he's under the impression that it'll be out in time for the reading on October 18. It wouldn't make much sense to have a book tour before the book comes out, neh?

I woke up this morning with a terrible sinus headache that was making my eyeballs throb. I'm also sneezing a lot and breathing through only one side of my nose. This feels like an allergy attack, though it's kinda late in the summer for the things I'm normally allergic to. The only thing I think it could be is a pile of books Janet checked out from the university library yesterday. She came with me to school and hung out in the library while I went to my morning class; it was very fun having her there on campus with me. But she had to go to the top floor of the stacks, where hardly anyone goes, and we might have inadvertently brought back some dust mites.

We went to Barnes and Noble last night so I could get an idea of what magazines print author interviews. I finished my interview with Daniel Wallace last month and submitted it to Strange Horizons, but found out they're pretty full on articles until somewhere around December. I queried Salon.com, but have not heard back yet. The Modern Word and Fantastic Metropolis are possibilities, as is the Internet Review of Science Fiction. Print possibilities are Poets & Writers, The Writer, Writers' Journal and The Believer. If anyone has further suggestions, please let me know in the comments.

I picked up copies of the new Amazing Stories (which, after one issue, is apparently looking for a new editor-in-chief) and the newest Realms of Fantasy with stories by Tim and Rudi. I also grabbed a copy of Crossroads, which is out after years of delay from Tor Books.

Okay, I'm off to read Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedy, Titus Andronicus. Y'all have a nice unbloody day.
