Coping Mechanisms

Thanks for the various expressions of support over my work-related brouhaha. I managed to purge most of the angst by Saturday. Of course now it's Monday and I'm still facing the same situation, but I'm not as freaked out about it now.

And on Sunday I did manage to add another 1,600 words to Vote Phyllis, getting it to what I speculate is about two-thirds done.

Of course that's pretty much all I did all day and into the night but it at least proved that, given a day without any work or any other demands at all, I can still actually write.

Of course I suppose if I spent the next twenty years doing nothing but driving golf balls off the same tee, I might eventually get a hole in one. That does not suggest that I should quit my job to go on the PGA tour.

But my point, such as it is, is to offer up a couple online resources that have gotten me through those moments when I really see no alternative but to get the handgun out of my desk and provide a little feedback.* There have been plenty of times when I've literally had to fire up one of these in the cube or face the consequences. Perhaps they'll help you too.

Kittens playing happy music on a beach.

(Actually rathergood.com has all kinds of wacky British fun. Hippo Girl is another favorite, but the beach kittens have the therapeutic value.)

And of course, Zombo.com where the only limit is yourself.

*John speaks metaphorically. He does not really keep a handgun in his desk.
