What Do I Read Now?

I just finished IMMORAL (Brian Freeman). As I said in the last post, this book deserves all the praise you see on the back cover. If you haven't yet discovered this book, I highly recommend it. It's tense and gripping, fast-paced and suspenseful, and thrilling to the end, when the last piece of the puzzle falls into place.

Lately, I find that I am a bit burnt out on crime fiction/mystery/suspense novels. It's started to affect my writing. Sometimes whatever book I am reading inspires me, and other times, like now, it intimidates and stalls me. It's like when I sit for an hour and try to get from G to C on the guitar without looking while watching Carlos Santana play a solo.

That said, I am taking a small departure and picking up some different kinds of books. I'm trying to decide which of these, which have been taking up space on my TBR shelf. They include:

The Eight - Katherine Neville
Faithful - O'Nan & King
From A Buick 8 - Stephen King
A Separate Peace - John Knowles
Harry Potter #5 - J. K. Rowling
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy - Douglas Adams
A Brief History Of Time - Stephen Hawking
Write Away - Elizabeth George

What Else?

This was a great weekend for me, although if one word sums it up, that word would be LAZY. I slept late Saturday and Sunday, and I didn't do much more than read and watch football and nap. Well, I did start cleaning up my office a bit. And I did some writing, though not on the novel. And I put new strings on my guitar, which was an exercise in frustration and resulted in a second trip to Main Street Music for a string to replace the one I broke.
