People complain about musicals.
They say:

Nobody just stops in the street
and breaks into song.

I say you know the wrong people.

The City That Won't Die

So I've got this piece of music, and it's a little rough around the edges, but I'm not going to have the chance to polish it for a while. It's a kind of angry-funky-sad found-sounds thing, with audio I recorded around the streets of NYC during the week of 9-11, and a capture of an SJ Rozan radio appearance in which she took on a right-winger whose magazine had run a cover article called NEW YORK: THE CITY THAT WON'T DIE. And some recordings of SJ and Sinclair Browning and me, talking about "writing mysteries after 9-11" at Bouchercon. And then there was a thunderstorm in Queens while I was working on it, so that got stuck in there too.

As I said, it's rough around the edges--it's even got some little "blip-bloop" sounds in it because I haven't paid for a certain piece of third-party software yet, and the end fade is messed up. But... I'm not going to have time to finish it, and I like it, and I don't want it just languishing on my hard drive forever.

So here it is. For a little while, anyway.

As of August, 2004, THE CITY THAT WON'T DIE is at Soundclick.
