This isn't where I thought I was going to be when I looked forward into my life, but here I am....

Hi, my name is Kenny and I'm a geek

So, in the last week, I have done two extremely geeky things for which I am proud of.

This last weekend, I actually followed through with my threat that "someday I'll use that computer that's just sitting in the corner and set up a server." We now have a FreeBSD server running in the house that will serve as a development and staging platform for JournalScape or any other projects that take my fancy (although other projects are verboten [sp?] until JournalScape is finished).

Today, I wrote a CGI script in Perl that takes a bunch of data and then dynamically creates the source code for a Java object for the new project I'm working on. :) If you're a geek, you're probably thinking, "Why the heck are you using Perl to generate Java? Why not use Java to generate Java?" To that I say.. The right tool for the right job. Perl is way better at string manipulation than Java. :) If you aren't a geek... well, you probably skipped to the next paragraph at the first mention of CGI/Perl/Java. ;)

Tonight I am going back to HRD class for the first time in a week and a half, so I'll be getting my new sash to match my journal! :) Kyle is probably already ahead of me in learning the new Blue sash stuff... I guess I'm destined to be perputually behind.

Other news... last night, Jenn and I met with the jeweler who will be making our wedding rings. He seems very cool, and apparently does this as his artistic outlet, so when we gave him our geekly complicated designs his was response was "oh! a challenge! :)" So, I'm excited about that, he apparently does jewelery for stars and whatnot. One of his pieces was featured in the LA Times because it was worn at the Golden Globes.
