The Irony of it All One of the biggest features we need before we officially launch is a journal search. I put together an alpha version, but it has some limitations I'm not willing to deal with, so last night I sat down to think about ways of making my own search.
Then I realized I'm not allowed to. I work with some of the greatest minds on the planet about how searching and indexing should be done. I've read documentation on how the searching and indexing works, etc, which means all of that Intellectual Property is in my head. Which means that any sort of search feature that I build from the ground up will be inherently influenced by Google's Intellectual Property. Well, fuck. :) I can however, blindly use someone else's search implementation, which I was able to find on the Comprehensive Perl Archive Network (CPAN). I won't ever be able to fiddle with it myself though, I'll have to just use it as is. It appears to work very well, so there's no worries on that front.... but I just find the whole situation rather amusing. Read/Post Comments (11) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top
