Fuzzy Dice, by Paul di Filippo Steven got me Fuzzy Dice for Christmas and I read it over the Google Snow Jam weekend (on flights or during down time people, no partying was lost due to solitary reading *smile*).
The Publishers Weekly quote on the front says that it is "cut from the same cloth as The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," but I have to disagree with that assertion and replace it with Neal Stephenson. It has a great opening, a weak ending, and an everpresent love of scientific principle in action. Like Stephenson, I can't tell if Di Filippo just really loves this stuff or is showing off. :) The short version of the story is: Protagonist, Paul, leaps from parallel universe to parallel universe, each of which is based in some theoretical scientific princple from our universe (chaos theory, Sheldrake's morphic resonance, cellular automata, meme controlled world, etc). It is an interesting read and moves pretty quick. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top
