I'm a little shocked at the number of scams I've already been hit with and I haven't even owned a home for a month.
The latest one is my favorite.
The envelope says "REAL ESTATE DOCUMENTS ENCLOSED"
The first page in the envelope is a copy of my Grant Deed that is the notarized transfer from the real estate from the previous owners to me. The second page is a form to fill out to receive a "Declaration of Homestead." They have in the fine print that they aren't associated with the state or local authorities, but they've made sure to take a yellow highlighter to the portion that says
"RETURN THIS FORM WITH A CHECK FOR $45 TO RECEIVE YOUR DECLARATION OF HOMESTEAD"
so that your eyes don't see the note that this is a scam.
Good times.
