California Court Affirms Right to Gay Marriage The court’s 4-to-3 decision, striking down two state laws that had limited marriages to unions between a man and a woman, will make California only the second state, after Massachusetts, to allow same-sex marriages. The decision, which becomes effective in 30 days, is certain to be an issue in the presidential campaign. I'm very happy to hear this news. :) I've been disappointed that CA wasn't allowing gay marriage. We're supposed to be very liberal, open minded, forward thinking, etc. This has been long overdue! In fact, it was 4 years ago that Mayor Gavin Newsom instigated civil disobedience and started performing marriages in San Francisco that eventually led us to today. It also precipitated some events within my family that led to me making the decision to no longer speak to my parents. So, this is a win-win in my opinion.
