Self-repairing Aircraft Could Revolutionize Aviation Safety
Some researchers at Bristol University have been working on self-healing polymers! Embedding resin and hardening chemicals within tiny pockets in the fiber-reinforced polymer structures will allow them to crack or be punctured and then BLEED the needed materials to patch the hole automatically!! That's so freakin' cool!!! It should be able to restore 70-80% of the strength of the structure and this can happen while the airplane is flying.
