Back in 1999 when we took our vacation in SoCal, we did not get down in to King's Canyon because they closed the road for the winter just before our arrival.

We got down there on Monday, however, and found a gorgeous blue/white rushing stream along the road. Seeing the long, winding, descending road laid out before us, Shelley let me take my bike off the back of the car and ride it down while she followed in the car.

What a great idea! With nary a rotation of the pedals, I cruised for six and a half miles!!! My bike computer showed 25-30 mph the whole time, which was fast enough for my comfort level on the sharp turns. I had regular shorts and t-shirt on, so they created a great deal of drag (biking clothes really do make a big difference) but just as well to keep the speed down.

Nice road to ride down, but I would not want to ride it up!

Photos don't do the stream justice. It would have been nice to sit next to it for a day, but we ran out of time.

It would have been nice to sit next to the meadow for a day too, and watch for bears and other critters to come out and graze.

A few of the trees back up in Sequoia NP. It smells so good there.

We will go back.
