As an early birthday celebration for Kenny, we joined him and Jenn and friend Steven for a day at Sea World in San Diego. Jenn rented a van and drove us all down for fun and food in the sun.

My favorite thing there? The dolphins and orcas, I reckon, but almost all the animal displays are worth a visit.

Kenny, Jenn, Shelley, Steven looking at the flamingos.

Jenn poised to snap the polar bear when/if it finally decides to take a plunge. As part of this display, park staff throw cream cheese on the windows so the bears come over and lick it off. One can get a rather good impression of the size of maw and claw that way. Remarkable!

The penguins come within arm's length. I'd never realized how reptilian their eyes look. Their feathers resemble scales, too, in my mind, reinforcing the dino look.

Sea World's shark tank sports a tunnel through their swimming area so you can see them from directly below. It's a nice display.

Dolphin at apogee.

A large flock of flamingos stalk a muddy-brown water area, setting off their color well.

Happy Birthday! to Kenny who will be out of town when he turns 21 again. (Or is this time the first time?)
