Probably it's begun a bit later than it should have, but my search to find a summer archaeology project has started. I did write to the guy who runs the Iceland project to see if he had anything at all this year, but no response, so I'm looking for alternatives.

The top contender so far: the Bamburgh Research Project. Located in northeast England, on the coast, this one looks both interesting and fun. While in York two years ago, people there said good things about it.

I did consider it last time as well, however its lack of university affiliation and camping in tents put me off. Not that tent camping would be too bad itself, but I had planned to take along my Panoscan gear, and assumed security of the equipment might be a problem, as would transporting it to and from the site. Neither's an issue this time, and with the favorable references, it sounds good.

We'll see what they have to say. I wrote to them about participating for the month of July. With luck they'll have space and need some more help. If not, I may go back to York, on their new project, working on the cathedral there.
