"In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed." Kahlil Gibran

the humming birds are back!

It's a great day in the neighborhood! My first hummingbird showed up today...I just put the feeders out the other day but didn't really expect to see any of them before May. Last year we must have had close to 50 of them who came each day...it was a constant battle to keep 3 feeders going but sure was worth it. They are such amazing little creatures and so much fun to watch.

Tomorrow should be a good day as well. I have friends from NY who are coming to Frankfort...which is about a 2 hour drive from our home. One of them is riding in a horse show..she's very good at it too. When I went to NY last summer for my class reunion, I stayed with them and had the opportunity to watch her in competition. she did very well, placed in 5 out of 6 events. So, I'm really looking forward to seeing them...its always nice to get news from home. After all, I spent most of my life in NY and there are some things/people I still miss.

I miss good Italian sausage, which I have been unable to find here. I also miss canolis...haven't been able to find them anywhere here in KY...Hmmmmm...funny, now that I think about it...those are the only "things" I really miss. Guess I'm better off than I thought.

I'm very angry with our dog Buford. He's a stray my daughter picked up on the road. He was skin and bones...looked like he hadn't eaten in weeks..ribs showing and just generally a sad looking sight. We got him fattened up, neutered, shots, a warm place to sleep and lots of good food. so, how does he thank me....? He ate all my tulips...just sat right there and ate all the blossoms! Whatta an ingrate! Now I'm afraid to plant anymore flowers for fear he'll eat the little sprouts or dig em up. Guess I'll just have to put everything in containers and confine them to the porch.

The frogs in the pond are making themselves known...I can hear the croaks at night but haven't caught sight of them yet...by the sound of the chorus, we've got quite a crowd this year. Last year we had an egret come to the pond and devour all the fish...don't' know if they eat frogs. At least I think it was an egret...my knowledge of birds is quite limited so I'm taking my neighbor's word for it.

Don't know what all this babble is about...just wanted to stop in and let y'all know I'm still here I guess.
