"In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed." Kahlil Gibran

the hummingbird....

There are those moments in one's life that are special. Moments that are unique and leave a lasting memory.

I had such a moment the other day.

I was sitting on the front porch, chatting with my daughter Tina, when a hummingbird buzzed past our heads and slammed into the picture window.

I thought for sure the poor little thing had killed herself on impact. They are such fragile little creatures.

Tina reached down and picked her up, placing her in my hand.
The tiny bird didn't move..didn't bat an eyelash!

As I sat there looking at the little patient, I thought how blessed I was to be holding this fragile little life in my hands. How many people get the chance to hold a hummingbird?

She began to stir, opened an eye and ruffled her feathers.
Tina took her from me and set her on the ground.

She sat, and we watched for nearly 10 minutes..then, as suddenly as she had fallen to the ground, she was once again in the air, flying to a nearby tree.

I decided to move the feeder, which was hanging from the porch, to the nearby tree. Hopefully this would reduce the chances of banging into the window.

A little later in the evening, here she came, right to the feeder just as if nothing had happened.

We named her Baby Girl and enjoy her visits to the nectar bar several times a day.

I guess the lesson is not to give up. No matter how fragile one may appear, there is an inner strength that can be drawn upon to get through the rough times.

Just think...I got to hold a hummingbird in my hand! Now isn't that a sweet memory?

xoxo
