gother than and short story news

Today I'm working on the new short story, which is, at this point, untitled. Eight-hundred-some words so far.

I also played the piano and did some studying, made a cheesecake for some friends, a pumpkin cheesecake custard for K, worked in the garden, and there's still a lot to do.

It was an okay weekend. Spent a day with the in-laws. It was a nice day. The MIL is teaching me how to sew -- it's good for us to have something in common to talk about. The FIL and I had a nice conversation about politics. Avadore spent a few hours with his grandparents and had a great time. Much better than when he'd run from them, howling and screaming.

Winter went off for the weekend to local huge city to perform his function as an uber greased up sex midget. That's right, you don't want to know.

When he got home, we dressed up in goth attire (okay -- some of us were already dressed that way) and played a rousing couple of rounds of "Gother Than Thou" with only one deck while listening to The Cure and Sisters of Mercy. Ross tried to sing "This Corrosion" for us (because of the goth card he kept getting) and ended up rapping it. Have you ever heard Sisters of Mercy rapped? No? That's probably best. Ross also spent a lot of the evening talking in a terrible Southern Accent ala Deliverance Country due to the two goth cards he kept acquiring. We also watched some of The Family Guy.

I could go on for a while now, all angsty-like, and write about how no one understands me around here -- perhaps anywhere and complain about the local dominant culture, but instead I'm going to say that dinner was great tonight (grilled rib eye, wild rice, asparagus) and note that it's about time to buy another half a cow and that "Midnight Metal" is not a bad nail polish. Then I'm going to say "Cheers!" and I'll catch you all later... **************************************************** And in just plain snifty news, the editor for the second place that I submitted a short story to has asked if they can keep it for further consideration. The first place liked it a lot, but in the end didn't take it. I am so excited. This is my first real short story that I've tried sending out (and really the second one that I wrote after I started writing fiction again), so it's exciting for me to have people who don't look at it and say, "ARGH! This is UTTER CRAP!!!" Even if the magazine doesn't take it, I am just so plain excited that the editor didn't just throw it out.
