2005-01-12 12:33 PM writing blocks and cheating Last April, I believe, I wrote a pretty decent short story. I sent it to one of my writing groups and they sent back some good crits that seemed to imply the need for some evolution of plot, character motivation, etc. Semi-daunted and wanting to move on to other things, I put it on the back burner for a while. This was A Very Good Decision. I pulled it out last night, went through it, and created an outline for a very significant rewrite. I can do this; I have an outline and know where we're going, but the task still seems so daunting.
This isn't a block, specifically, this is a, "Oh, do I have to?" And I answer, "Yup, sorry kid. Don't want to? Tough tacos." Tough tacos, indeed. So, along with exercise (which we'll discuss more in a moment), this is something I'm making myself work on today. Today I have been a very bad girl. For breakfast I ate a whole bagel and 24 ounces of milk. I also missed my fruit. For lunch I ate a grilled ham and swiss sandwich on white bread (though I didn't use real butter or margarine to grill it with -- that was good) and a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2 " x 1 1/2 " piece of chocolate cake with caramel frosting that had no redeeming nutritive value whatsoever. It was made with 2 tablespoons oil versus the usual 1/4 or 1/2 cup it's supposed to have, so that was good. And it was delicious. This means there is no way I'm missing my bike ride today. And I may even chock it in gear and ride a bit longer. It also means I need to get it in gear so I can get all my fruit and vegetable servings tonight. Isn't it interesting reading about other people's eating habits? Absolutely. I'm sure it's also lovely to listen to me whine about writing.
