big weekend

Yesterday was J-Spot's 24th birthday, which we're celebrating this morning. I'm off to make a lemonade cake after I finish posting here.

Today is Rice's and my 6th anniversary. Depending on how you count it, we've either been together 6 years or 10. Either way, it's been quite a ride.

Later this afternoon or evening, the in-laws are coming by for a quick visit and to haul the eldest child off up north, which will leave Rice and I alone, plus infant. Fried chicken will be involved and who knows what else.

It should be a most excellent time tonight.

In other news, I think I may have actually started the novel I've been contemplating for just over three years. (I'm so slow at this!) It begins at a funeral and the opening lines are, "They came to the funeral in the golf cart."

Been reading some of Michael Chabon's short stories and I'm learning a great deal from him. I just finished a Madeleine L'Engle nonfiction book. I've learned a lot from her about the artist's responsibility and being a writer-wife-mother (not necessarily in that order). She gives me hope.

Off to bake a birthday cake.
