sometimes you just need to enjoy the day

There is so much to do around here. I can't even comprehend all that may need to be done. And I just got home after being gone for several days. And...

And I had a lazy morning. I slept in (bless Rice), and then spent the morning with the kids and reading.

I just finished Holly Black's Tithe. It has all sorts of aspects that I am fairly jaded on. The only thing missing were lusty vampires. HOWEVER, I totally loved it. I felt that it had a few flaws, but the strengths and utter fungirl squee factor totally won out. When I finished I had a silly fourteen-year-old frin on my face. I can't wait to read the sequel, Ironside. It also provided me with some insight into my own work, which is always good.

Afterwards, I ate lunch, and then Rice put LD down for a nap and Avadore and I went on an excursion. We started at the library where we checked out some cool looking books, made more suggestions to the library's book buying board (they regularly buy what I suggest, so...), and then Avadore played on one of their computers while I read. The kid's an engineer in training. The stuff he designs on computers and with blocks and cans and anything else just blows my ever-loving-motherly mind.

After the library we went to my favorite coffee spot for hot chocolate. I rarely go there now since I've had kids, but it's a cool place and they make really good everything. (And I have an account which I need to spend it before I move.) Avadore and I both had Aztec Hot Chocolates with coffee shop made whipped cream and vanilla, and chocolate sauce drizzled over. Avadore also had two pieces of orange almond biscotti. He pronounced them very delicious.

Then we ran home to check on LD and Rice. LD was still asleep so Avadore and I went to the local comic shop. (Another place I rarely go to. I actually used to have a box, believe it or not. I can't say I do.) Avadore got a free Spiderman comic and a local artist drew him a Spidey profile. Avadore was very impressed. Another artist told me she'd draw me a female member of the Endless and if I got a box she'd have them put it in for me. I got her name and I'll go back in when it's not Free Comic Day and get a box. Evidently a local person has drawn a twelve-foot Morpheus. O_O I can only imagine what that would look like. I talked with one guy about The Maxx and Avadore signed their Free Comic Book Day wall of fame ... with his left hand. (Usually he uses his right. No one is sure which hand he favors, if he does favor one over the other, so we're just letting him go and observing.) I geeked with other geeks who dressed like they lived at Hot Topic. It. Was. Thrilling. Seriously.

Then Avadore and I went and bought a red onion (a part of tonight's dinner) and some shampoo.

Now I'm off to do some laundry, and make dinner, and do some writing, and hang with the family, and then end an absolutely perfect day. I had a great time geeking with my son. He had a great time geeking with me. We had great mini-geeking conversation.

We had fun. Together. He is such a cool little kid.

And I am so happy.
