2005-05-26 11:38 PM The Final Countdown Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (3) I don't know where to start, other than to write what I've been telling everyone over the past two weeks: I'm not really stressed, but I am addled. I don't think I've been able to really think straight or devote a full 5 minutes of attention to any one person, thing, event, or job during that time. While I know that's not entirely true, I'm certainly not really at " mental peace" right now.
However, to all of you whom I've had the pleasure of visiting and/or otherwise getting together with for conversation, I WAS listening, I'll have you know. I think those may have been the only recent times when my thoughts weren't on updating banking information, changing all instances of our address, arranging for UNC retirement funds to go to an IRA, packing things up for the move, weighing the pros and cons of doping our cat for the three hour (probably four with her) drive, etc., etc. Really, just far too many things to consider realistically at once... Although tomorrow I am looking forward to subscribing to NetFlix and getting a queue started. So, to anyone out there who's seen a good DVD-release lately, please feel free to make suggstions to us in the comments sections. I know that Step into Liquid will probably be the first film on the list. That one's supposed to be a pretty nifty documentary about surfing that I've been wanting to see for quite some time. Steffi and I are going to have a lot of time between May 31 and August 22 (when our VT jobs start) to hang out -- and seeing as how we'll have neither cable nor any real hope of picking up channels from the air with rabbit ears, we're going to have to resort to self-determined programming. I think things will work out better this way... A big thanks to everyone who's invited us over for dinner, dessert, and/or some TV-watchin'. In the past three days alone, I've gotten to see some Eddie Izzard, drink some Pimm's Cup (tasty!), and see the absolutely most kick-ass Thai kungfu film you'll ever see. Ong Bak: Thai Warrior will teach you to never mess with a ripped Thailander named Ting as well as to never cut the head off a buddha statue. Thanks again Alex, Jen, Suzanne, Paula, and Kyle for all of those goodies. Those get-togethers have kept me sane... Additionally, a big apology is owed to all those friends and family we haven't been able to and won't see prior to the big Saturday move. According to Stephen Hawking and his book A Brief History of Time, Time really isn't a universal constant, and for Steffi and myself it may have gone a lot faster than for many of those around us. May has been a blur, and I get the feeling we're approaching the speed of light. Now if only we could find that Carrboroan wormhole that would dump us out on the front lawn of 511 Cranwell Circle, Blacksburg. That way the cat would probably only have to throw up once... Speaking of time, it's late. I may yet need some sleep for that "almost last day" in the OASIS workplace. Oh, yeah, and I almost forgot -- the cable modem goes back to Time Warner tomorrow afternoon, so I may get one last post in before our relocation. Hoping to get Verizon DSL once we're settled in and be back online within a few days or a short week after Memorial Day. So, to all three of you reading, get out your rabbit ears, tilt them this way and that, and stay tuned! Blacksburg is up next in the programming.
