Sitting on the deck of my house, watching the words roll my way...

Just in case I don't get a chance to write some more tonight, I wanted to check in -- did 1,400 words today. Now we're talking! I need to do at least this much for the next 2 weeks or so, and finish this crazy novel up soon!

It was quite nice today, hanging out on the back deck with dog and laptop, working on the second interlude of the novel. Only problem was, I kept falling asleep! I got pretty good sleep last night -- was asleep by 9, got up at 3. That's 6 hours. That's pretty good, right???

I may never finish this story collection by Philip K. Dick. Every time I try to read a story, I get about 3 pages in and fall asleep. Nothing against his writing, really, though I'm finding it not as good as current SF, for some reason. Not a lot of world-building, I guess. And a lot more paranoia. And funny names. People have funny names in his story.

Anyway, my main focus these next few weeks is finishing my own novel. I'm all done with part 2, at last at last. Part 3 is now suddenly rolling along. I just had to prepare myself for it. I have Father Joshua hanging out with Shermie, which has been fun so far. The shit's getting ready to hit the fan, now. The Late Ones are arriving... And they're a bit... crazy. Later!

Today's Quote:
They walked out of the small office that had been set up for them in the Student Union. For the past few weeks he'd been working with Shermie, trying to learn all they could about the Wannoshay language, culture, and literature. Joshua and Shermie both liked the work, but not the long hours. Joshua wondered sometimes if the military hadn't set up this office for them to keep the two old men out of the way. It seemed that way when it took ten minutes just to get down the steps and out into the parking lot that faced the mother ship.

The empty field in front of the ship was packed tight with temporary shelters, tents, shacks, and even cardboard boxes. All of the Wannoshay, as far as Joshua could tell, had come here, to Iowa City. And they'd set up camp next to the Union.
