Spiders, Schedules, Forests

Now that long weekend was quite needed, and quite timely! We got to hang out with the neighbors and some old friends on Saturday and Sunday, Drew got to play with his buddy Stella, we went to the playground last night and got eaten up by mosquitoes, we even cleaned out the closets and got the baby's room ready for Mitch.

And our sickly member of the family got some well-needed recovery time:

Mr. Whit got bit by either a brown recluse or a black widow last weekend, and he had a serious lump under his chin that grew worse as the week went on. Lizzie took him to the vet, and much grossness ensued as the lump, well, exploded.

He's healing nicely, and goes back to the vet today. He managed to undo his bandages a couple times this weekend, and when Drew saw the drain the vet had stitched under Whit's chin, he kept asking "Why is Whit broken?"

Meanwhile, I struggled all weekend to convince myself that my current novel wasn't the bigget pile of crap ever. I usually don't get this way about my own writing, but I'm feeling a bit frustrated that this book has been taking so long -- over two years since I first had the idea for it. Granted, the past two years have been quite crazy...

So I sat down with my Google calendar and mapped out the rest of the month (yes, it's September already!) so I can edit and revise a chapter a day, more or less. And I just finished chapter 2 this morning, getting Noah lost in the forest. Much fun!

And now I have a jog to take. Later!
