Today's internal writing debate is on third versus first person. Chick Lit, which is rumored to be on the way out, is typically written in first person these days, although there are good examples of third-person writing as well. I personally really enjoy first-person writing when done well (it's hard to do that well, however). But I also enjoy third-person because of all the details that can be given that the main character might not otherwise be aware of (and therefore share).
