Certainty is disconcerting

I blogged a while back on certainty and suggested it was uninteresting. I think it is also quite disconcerting. Now, I'll admit my uncertainty is also personally disconcerting, but I often wonder when I hear people debating something how they seem to have come to such firm convictions, and suspecting that they probably haven't put in as much hard work winning their way to their certainties as I have finding my way to my uncertainties. So, I guess I may be in the same boat, They're certain of their certainties and I'm just as certain their certainties are not likely to be so certain, or at least that they are not likely to be in a position to know them to be.

But I certainly distrust my feelings about their certainty -- maybe I just don't have any convictions or am not clear-thinking enough to see my way to the inevitable conclusions of life.
