Lent, Easter, triumphalism and love

Any of you into the Lenten season? In many ways it seems it should be a very meaningful time for Mr. Cloudy -- to ponder that Jesus was alone and in the wilderness -- you might call it the rainy season of the Christian year. Maybe part of the reason it doesn't connect as a church season for me is that it is capped off by Easter celebrations and I can't help but feel that many who celebrate Easter in the church celebrate it much like the crowds on Palm Sunday celebrated Jesus arrival in Jerusalem who were nowhere to be found in the Gospel stories of the crucifixion. It seems Easter is treated as a triumphalism of certainty and, ironically, of power -- and talk of proving the resurrection, etc. rather than a proclamation of a love that can pervade the dark places even if it cannot miraculously change them.

Anyway, I hope in this season, whether you "celebrate" or not, that the light of love is known in your life, whether it's the sun, or just the flicker of a candle held in a trembling hand.
