Hooked on Reality

Reality TV, that is. Well, not all "reality tv"...I pretty much loathe just about everything out there with that distinction. However, Scott and I have become totally hooked on two shows on Discovery: Monster House and American Chopper. We never thought a show about a family-run motorcycle shop would be so intriguing. These shows are so damn fun to watch! Monster House is just outrageous, but most of the time they do an amazing job. It's like Trading Spaces on steroids and crack, with a $20k+ budget, a week instead of 2 days, and an interesting construction crew that is different each time (and they've never worked together before...drama ensues). If they finish at the deadline of 5 days, the crew wins some really cool prizes. If not, they just look like big fat losers. Not good for their individual reputaions. Monster Garage has piqued our interest, but not as much as the afforementioned two. The cop car/donut shop was an interesting idea though. (mmm...Krispy Kreme) It's pretty funny, since we share the same disgust with the absolute onslaught of crappy "reality tv" (although I sometimes slip when hugely bored and in need of drama). I guess there are categories of these types of shows: There's the dating-type shows (Ex-treme Dating, The Bachelor, etc.), the Survivor/game type shows and the drama type shows (The Osbornes, Baby Story, etc.)...I suppose I could go on and on. I like the home/self-improvement shows, and the drama shows. The rest can kiss my arse. :-P
