2005-08-01 3:32 PM politics, overeating and shackles in the news today:
govenor pataki of new york says that he will veto a bill that makes legal the dispensation of the "morning after" pill to women without a prescription unless measures are included that "protect" minors. this has outraged the pro-choice people, as gov. pataki has indicated support for the pro-choice viewpoint in the past. it seems the esteemed govenor of new york is trying to pave his way to a presidential bid in 2008 by pleasing the conservatives, whose support he will need. so, it's not from a moral standpoint but a political one. i have often wondered at the conservatives view on the "morning after" pill. they consider it killing a potential human. does this mean every time a man masturbates, he is killing thousands of potential humans? shouldn't this be outlawed as well? and who would police this? **** takeru kobayashi from japan has won the alka selzer competetive eating competition and $10,000 for eating 13 lbs. of spaghetti in 14 minutes; 4 lbs. of italian salad; 6 lbs. of potato skins and 6+ lbs. of a tailgating platter that included chicken fingers, chips and dip, a buffalo chicken wing sandwhich and swedish meatballs. it was one of the most fascination but disgusting things i have ever seen on TV. only in america, i swear. **** in san jose, california, desiree callahan suffered through the delivery and death of a daughter. she did so in shackles and cuffed to a gurney. she remained cuffed and guarded for the majority of her four-day recuperation in the hospital. desiree was an inmate of the Valley State Prison for Women. she is one of the 185 women prisoners on average who give birth each year in california. desiree, and other pregnant women like her, are not the only ones that are shackled and guarded at great cost to the taxpayer while in the hospital. comotose and brain dead inmates are also treated this way, in case they make a break for the great outside. where on earth does the state think laboring mothers and non-functioning people are going? california has a $1.1 billion prison health care system...no wonder it's so high. **** like rosanne rosanna danna used to say ( bless her heart).. "It's always something!" :) Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
