well, i got a few more pieces out there, but getting organized in that department is like trying to herd chickens. i end up chasing the little buggers all over the place and trying to drag one out from under the henhouse by the tail, getting pecked at the whole way.

not only that, but every publication wants them formatted a certain way. different ways.

double space lines and indent paragraphs.

don't double space lines but double space between paragraphs. don't indent.

send as an attachment as a word doc.

send in the body of your email.

don't send in the body of your email.

send as an attachment in rtf. format.

include a bio in the body of your email.

don't include a bio in the body of your email, include it at the beginning of your piece.

no, wait. include at the end.

send it via our online submission form.

send it snail mail, include a SASE.

all attachments will be deleted without reading.

use 12 pt. courier.

use 10 pt roman.

no, better yet, scratch it on your ass cheeks and bend over.

GIMME A F*CKIN'BREAK HERE, PEOPLE.

it's enough to make you crazy, i swear.

so, to date:

"Be It Ever So Humble" is at Drabble.

"Learning The Hard Way" is at Aoife's Kiss.

"The Dead Line" is at Sommerset Review.

"California Hillside" is at Lorraine and James.

"Practice Makes Perfect" is at Flashshot.

"In The Blue" is at Antimuse.

"You Are What You Eat" is at Surreal Magazine.

that's more than i've had out in over a year. i'm compulsively checking my email, even though i know it might be three months before i hear from some of these places. i have some other stories on deck to go, but they need a bit of tweaking before i'm ready. i started on "The Rose" again but got stalled out. ( rats!! ) ( i can hear laurie screaming right now, heehee! )

so that will be what....seven rejections to total up?

no biggie...i have six times that number ( or more, i forget, i used to keep track but what the hell ) racked up as it is. to think i started this four years ago...

i gave myself a year. i said if i didn't get published by then, i was going to re-think the whole thing. well, i did make my goal so no re-thinking is necessary. ( thank god, i had a hard time thinking in the first place. )

i've learned a lot in the last four years.

i think i'm better at telling a story.

i realize i'll never get rich doing this.

i know i couldn't do it without a support group.

i've learned that doing crits teaches you a lot. so does reading other people's crits.

i've become more observant of not only my inner planet, but the one around me.

i've learned that even in this world of amazing technology, you can do wonders with a pen and a legal pad.

i've learned i have a lot left to learn.

****

well, that's enough philosophizing for the day, i think. i better stop there before i blow ALL my brain cells.

****

the Guido saga is strangely quiet today...that could be good, it could be bad. i'm sure i'll run across the snotbaby's errors and booboos when i come in on monday. until then, i'm going to pretend he's invisible, which is hard to do with that coochie thing on his face.

ewwww!

:)
