how i met the internet

eric has a great blog about how he met the internet.

the first time i saw a computer was in 1989 when i applied for a job as a medical claims approver. i was required to take a typing test; the interviewer asked me to hit the "F1" key.

i had to ask her where it was.

at first, there wasn't email or anything. the servers were huge and mostly off-site; we worked on what they called "dummy" terminals and had a very primitive in-office message system.

the database is tremendously humongous. i learned adjustments to the system so well, i was transferred to the overpayment team, which was considered the elite.

i learned a lot.

at the next job, i learned about AOL. i went from AOL to MSN (a lateral move) and then to a local ISP. dial-up is just painful. i was offline for a couple of years, and then caught up again.

here, i have wi-fi and i'll eat macaroni and cheese or raman noodles every day to keep a wi-fi connection.

Check out TSB for the most legal fun you can have with your clothes on.
