letter One to my Muffin*
*author's note: i'm going to try to write a letter every sunday night to my Muffin, who is currently baking inside my GC.
dear Muffin,
right now you're about the size of a blueberry or small grape. i'm still totally gobsmacked that my baby is going to have a baby. that concept is so overwhelming to me.
your mama told me on my 50th birthday, and i have to say it was the best birthday present i ever got. funny thing, it made me feel younger, not older. i flashed back to when i first found out i was pregnant for the first time, and all the joy and happiness flooded me again. it was a great feeling, and i thank you, little Muffin. i'm sure it's the first of many great feelings you'll inspire. :)
you don't know me right now, but we're going to be great buddies. i can't wait to spoil you, teach you bad words, and write you stories. i can't wait to dress you up in Giant's gear, and sing "Away In The Manger" in july, or bite your chubby toes. i'm looking forward to teaching you the joys of jelly belly jelly beans, and introducing you to Great-Noni and Poppy. i want to teach you the Stupid White Girl Dance, buy you a flashing grill fo' yo' teef, and cuddle with you every chance i get.
oh, yes. we're going to be great buddies.

you picked the perfect mama, Muffin. she's fabulous, and you're going to really, really like her. she's funny and merry, she's sarcastic and loving. she can get a little crabby if she hasn't had enough sleep, so cut her a break, if you can, okay? just a favor between us. i'll make it worth it, i promise. ;)
your daddy is a pretty cool cat, too. we didn't really like each other there for awhile, but your mama has good taste so i knew there had to be something in there somewhere. sure enough, she was right. (get used to it. she usually is.) he takes very good care of your mama, so i know he'll take very good care of you.
well, that's about it for tonight. stop messing with mama's tummy, and let her eat something. (and yes, you'd better get used to me being bossy. you'll probably be that way too.)
