saturday going to the dogs

Gem arrived home yesterday afternoon and the little Shittard just about went out of his little puppy mind. oh, it's okay -- that's just me picking up poop, that's just me dealing with your nasty worms, that's just me taking you out in the rain, feeding you treats, and rubbing your belly. SHE walks in the door and all of a sudden i've fallen off the face of the planet.

that's okay. i don't like you anyway.

****

we stayed up too late, drank too many Bailey's over ice, and not only did we get shitfaced, we solved all the problems there ever were in anyone's life, and we did it in eight hours of yakking. what a BLAST.

she said she was surprised i took the job. we spoke of pressure, obligations, and how you don't always get what you want. i said once you jump off, there's a period of time where it's EASY to jump off again, should the need arise.

she nodded.

we discussed Miss S, and she fully endorsed my feeling that i not only have to keep one eye on her, i will need to keep BOTH eyes on her. (Gem has known her for quite a while. i got an earful, and my stomach echoed that remark.) but again, JUMP JUMP JUMP.

because....

i'm commissioned for twenty-four pieces, ten of which are due on tuesday. yes, feast or famine. either that, or the careful mining of the last three months is starting to finally pay off. either way, i start work on monday and we'll see where it goes from there.

****

the little Shittard and his Goddess left this morning for their weekly stayover (BUH-BYE, LITTLE SHITTARD, DON'T MISS YOU, NEVER WILL) so after some household duties (i never did find my camera) i headed out to complete some errands. thanks to a gift card from my Posse when i left the hotel and an online coupon, i was able to upgrade to a Sony 7.2 megapixel camera. pics later as they happen.

(i still need to find my old camera -- it has a 2G memory card innit.)

you know, i was just thinking of the copy i've done in the last few months. the subjects have really run the gamut. i've done spiritual ethical wills, movie poster restoration and collection, jewish recipes, online universities, corporate universities, vocational training, satellites and objects in orbit, bachelor degrees, associate degrees, car alarm systems and anti-theft devices, interviewing skills and the new assignment is about dog breeds.

some interesting facts:

- the earliest examples of spiritual ethical wills can be found in Jewish literature. the ibn Tibbon family and their ethical wills are still read and studied today.

- most industrial paper since the 19th century contains high levels of acid. if you do not de-acidify your movie poster, the acid present will consume the paper until it becomes brittle and will eventually crumble.

- any mention of Easter in a Jewish Passover recipe is a huge no-no.

- you can earn a degree through an accredited online university and it's less expensive and more convenient for non-traditional students than attending a real campus.

- many corporations offer educational courses and award certificates for completion. this has become a huge draw for potential employees as a 'perk' or benefit to the job.

- vocational training was originally modeled on the practice of apprenticeship/journeyman programs for certain trades in the past, such as blacksmithing or woodworking.

- bachelor degrees are awarded after four years of study at an accredited college. associate's are two years. there are literally hundreds of degrees from which to choose.

- a car is stolen every 24 seconds.

- satellites provide cable TV, links the planet via the internet, and helps to predict the weather.

- most interviewers are impressed when a candidate makes and holds eye contact.

- the Newfoundland breed comes in two varieties: black, and black and white.

****

whoopdie-do.

****

okay. i gotta go finish the standards of a Newfoundland and then start on the Whippet.

dogs. how the hell did i get dogs??

*sigh*

:)
