letter Eighteen to my Muffin

Hi, Muffin dear!

We’ve had so much fun, haven’t we? My favorite part so far is when I laid with your mama on the couch and I felt you squirm and kick. That was the absolute COOLEST THING EVAH and I thank you for cooperating. : ) such a good boy, my Muffin!

Mama is beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. She’s round all over, and I don’t think there will be a problem with your main source of sustenance once you arrive. Heh!

Your mama is so smart, Muffin. She’ll keep you on your toes, just like she keeps MackDaddy on his. It makes me happy to see the two of them together, Muffin. They really were made for each other. Your daddy takes very good care of Mama, and she takes very good care of him. Even after four years together, they still do the icky kissy thing and hold hands, and they tell each other, “I love you,” all the time. Normally this would make me nauseous (and I’m pretty sure it will always squick you out to think of your parents like this) but there’s something very special between your mama and daddy that I haven’t seen in a long time. This gives me so much hope, Muffin, in many ways, on many levels.

We went to see your great-grammy today, and she was very happy to see us! We rode out there with the top down (Noni forgot about sunscreen, and acquired a nice red tone to her skin) and then I took GG for a ride with the top down. She loved it, Muffin – even her wrinkles were smiling! She cooked for us, and she’s making plans for a party for you and Mama and MackDaddy. I can’t wait until I see her hold you, Muffin. That’s sure to be a High Point of my life.

I took pictures, but the pictures in my head are clearer than the ones I took with my camera. The look on your Auntie Em’s face when she presented your mama with a little pair of bib overalls and matching hat. Great-grammy’s smiles in the car. MackDaddy kissin’ on yo mama. Stuff like that.

Wow, you’re getting big – 2 ¼ pounds and 14” long. I can’t believe it. Your mama makes me giggle all the time when she sees a commercial with a baby in it and says, “I’m gonna have one of those!” or points to her tummy and says, “There’s a baby living in here!” I can’t quite believe it, either. In two-and-a-half months you’ll be here, and I know that time will fly by.

Well, Muffin, we’re going to snuggle up and watch a movie, and I’ll sing to you again (you might not like it, I’m not that great at singing, but you better get used to it. You’ll hear it a lot!) and maybe I’ll get to feel you move some more. I love you, and I will miss you every second until I see you again. In the meantime, just know that Noni is always thinking of you, and holding you close in her heart.
