well, nothing much going on here in Netta-Land, other than the usual stress-producing stuff that seems to be never-ending. another four pounds down, if that tells you anything. the knight says i'm getting taller. heh.

because of the pace at work, the Empire building has been slow going, at least on my end. work is not the only reason, of course -- other stress factors apply, also. i'm trying to make my peace with CHANGE, and it's not going so well. i think it's in my nature to struggle. taking the easy way, or giving up is just not an option for me once i've made up my mind to a Certain Course of Action. i don't know if being this stubborn is a Good Thing or a Bad Thing -- it just is what it is.

transitions are painful things, even if, by some miracle, you end up in a better place. i guess there's times in everyone's life when they are stretched, bent and twisted into the shape the Universe intends for you, and all that stretching, bending and twisting tends to be uncomfortable, sometimes approaching agonizing.

either that, or i just take everything way too much to heart.

the river crest has been predicted for monday, with levels up to 42 feet above the norm. i'm not in a danger zone, but i've been traveling a lot the last week through different counties, and there are a lot of places that have been affected -- and the rain keeps coming.

you can read about it here.

i was extremely saddened to hear of the death of George Carlin, although not everyone is a fan. last night's SNL aired the first episode that featured George, as well as one of my favorite skits from Andy Kaufman. (i know Andy Kaufman's humor is not for everyone, but omg, does he crack me up.) anyway, George Carlin had a profound influence on me, from my sense of humor to the underlying truths beneath the laughter. Carlin was brilliant -- he could make you roll around in an uncomfortable topic and laugh hysterically the entire time. i used to have his album, Toledo Window Box, and i listened to it over and over.

RIP, man. gone, but never, ever forgotten.

the little Shittard had quite an ordeal. you know that collar thing to keep him from chewing his stitches? well, that thing freaked him out so bad we thought he was having a stroke. for two days he was frantic (panting, pacing, scratching, panting, more pacing, nibbling, and he actually nipped Gem) and finally, at two o'clock in the morning of the second day, Gem had had enough and took the damn thing off, although the vet's office told her he had to wear it for two weeks (they scared her, telling her that he HAD to wear it or he'd tear out his intestines.) he calmed IMMEDIATELY and has since done very well, although he's taken to peeing on the floor when no one is looking (and blaming it on the cat.)

i told Gem next time she wants a pet, to just get pregnant. heh.

that's it. other stuff will remain private, only because it's difficult to process while in the *middle* of the process, can ya feel me.

one foot. in front. of the other.
