letter Twenty-One to my Muffin

Dearest Muffin,

Your Noni has been busier than a one-armed paper-hanger. There doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to do everything, and there are a lot of balls in the air to juggle. You won’t have to worry about learning to juggle for a long time – all you have to do is concentrate on growing bigger and healthier. So far, you’re doing a great job!

Not long now, my little dumpling. I’m really getting excited! I’ll see you and Mama and Great-Granny in just a couple of weeks – we’re planning a party for you and Mama and Mack Daddy on the 27th, and we will have so much fun! There will be presents! And foodage! And music and Stupid White Girl Dancing! (which can certainly be modified to include Stupid White Boy Dancing!) I can’t wait.

I found the perfect onesie for you, poppet. It’s white with a name tag on it that says, “Hello, My Name Is Trouble”. Heh. Mama already knows she’s outnumbered, but she has the Clout of Noni behind her, so mind yourself, young man. *wink*

You are very special, and very important, Muffin. Great-Granny has had some troubles, and she’s fighting hard so she can meet you. She is *very* excited for your arrival, and she shops and talks about you constantly. Your Great-Granny is one in a million, Muffin…there’s no one quite like her, and I know you’ll get on famously. She has even more stories than I do. She’s the one that taught me the songs I’m going to sing to you; she’s the one that’s taught me the hard, valuable lessons that I will certainly pass along. She’s also the one that will spoil you the most – even more than me, if you can imagine it. It will be a happy, joyous day when she holds you in her arms, and I plan on taking at least a million pictures so you never forget how much she loves you – and she’s very, very good at loving people.

Well, my little biscuit, it’s time for Noni to get back to work. The Empire is growing (not as fast as you, you little monkey) and Noni is running to keep up. I’m hoping by the time you come along it will be big enough so that I can steal some time away to spend with you and Mama. And someday…well, we’ll see what happens, won’t we? All I can tell you right now is the lesson I’ve learned – never give up. Never. I fully suspect you’ll inherit a fine line of stubbornness (it runs in the genes) and while being stubborn might get you in to trouble now and then (see above onesie, heh!) it’s a good trait to have. I’ll help you, Muffin, I’ll help you to decide when being stubborn is a good thing, and when it’s a bad thing. As much as I’ve figured out, anyway. You see, Life is one Big Lesson, Muffin, and you must pay attention and learn. I’m still learning and I’m old. Heh!

I love you, Muffin darling, and I’m so looking forward to your party. I’ll talk to you next week, and then the week after that I’ll see you!! YAY!!

<3
